Spider veins affect millions of people, and it is generally found that this problem is prevalent among women. It is also seen among men but mostly seen among women due to various reasons. Some people don’t know about the exact reasons for spider veins and why they occur, and therefore, for such people’s information, we will learn about the causes of spider veins.

There are various unknown reasons for spider veins that we will discuss in this article. However, if you are facing a spider vein issue, then you can go for a spider vein treatment. Various specialist doctors can provide effective spider vein treatment.

What are the Five Unknown Causes of Spider Veins?

    • Family History, Age, and Gender: It is shown in studies that around 90% of people are suffering from spider veins issues due to family history. Among these people, there are a large number of women in comparison to men, and this is due to various factors. Women gain weight after pregnancy, and this becomes the primary reason for spider veins among women than men. Additionally, as a person grows older, the veins also become older and develop spider veins. So, this is one of the major causes that people are unaware of.
    • Pregnancy: Pregnant women have extra pressure on their legs due to the extra weight of the fetus, and therefore this creates the spider vein. There are cases in which the spider veins disappear after pregnancy, but in some cases, the veins remain permanent.
    • Prolonged Sitting or Standing: If a person is remaining still or in the same position for a prolonged period, the leg veins have to work extra hard to pump the blood towards the heart. This added pressure can cause spider veins in people with the habit of sitting or standing for long hours.
    • Obesity and Hormones: Heavy weight becomes the ideal body for spider veins as there is an added pressure on the leg veins. Women who are undergoing hormonal changes for menopause or who are taking birth control pills are also susceptible to the risk of spider veins. It is because the estrogen weakens the valves and affects the veins to flow the blood effectively.
    • Sun Damage or Previous Blood Clot: If a person is exposed to ultraviolet sunlight for a long time, it can cause damage to the skin. Thus, it can put pressure on a patient and increase the risk of spider veins. However, there is still a debate about this reason for sun exposure. If there is a previous blood clot and it is not solved effectively, it can also increase the chance of spider veins.
